In a little over 12 hours, I’ll be participating in my first Community Manager Appreciation Day. CMAD, an annual day to celebrate the growing role of online community managers, has been going internationally on since 2010, but this is the first time I’ve taken part in a panel.
The day is a chance to celebrate the jobs that social media types do in newsrooms, non-profits, institutions, startups and companies around the world. (I personally find that the title community manager is often interchangeable with social media producers, online engagement specialists and other social media-related roles.)
CMAD 2014 kicks off at midnight Jan. 27 with 24 full hours of live hangouts on air. My session is at 9 EST.
In Organic Community Growth From Scratch, I and other panelists will be talking about authentic ways to grow online communities, without resorting to sneaky or unethical methods. I plan to focus on the work that I’ve done growing the online communities of nonprofits like the Canadian Association of Journalists and the Danforth East Arts Fair.
